I arrived in Townsville last Thursday after an uneventful and largely uninteresting drive across outback Queensland. Overnight stops at Mt Isa, Julia Creek, Hughenden and Charters Towers. I thought I might have spent a day or two at Mt Isa, but changed my mind on arrival. Charters Towers was very nice, lots of historical buildings and a real buzz around town.

I spent my first three nights in Townsville at a caravan park at Rowes Bay enjoying a break from the road. Bit of wandering around, caught the bus into the town centre and gave the van and everything in it a good clean. On Saturday, just after I had hung out 3 loads of washing, we caught some coastal showers. This was my first sight of rain since a brief shower leaving Ceduna on Easter Monday. Not surprising given it is really humid here. Sunday I checked into the casino for 3 nights for a bit of pampering before hitting the road again tomorrow to head up to Cairns.
