Hola Peru

On Friday, Di and myself depart for our tour of Peru. We have an early flight to Sydney, followed by about 13 hours to Chile, then another 3 up to Lima in Peru.

We have booked on a globus tour – “Legacy of the Inca’s with Peru, Amazon and Galapagos cruise”.

After overnighting in Lima, we are hopping back on an aeroplane to fly across Peru to the Amazon where we will stay for 3 nights in a wild life lodge.

We then return to Lima where we meet up with the main tour group- about 26 people. After some time in Lima, we head up to the Andes visiting Cusco and Machu Picchu then on to Lake Titticata. Our last part of the primary tour is a trip down to Paracas for a scenic flight over the Nazca Lines.

After leaving the main group in Lima, we fly up to Quito, in Ecuador, for a 4 night cruise around the Galápagos Islands.

Preparation has involved vaccination for yellow fever and tetanus, as well as stocking up on medical supplies, malaria and gastrointestinal tablets as the water is not suitable for drinking ( or even brushing teeth). There is also the chance of altitude sickness up in the Andes – we plan to do what the locals do which is drink lots of coca tea and, as necessary, chew on the leaves – and hope we’re not drug tested on return to Aus ( although given it takes 360 kg of coca leaves to make 1 kg of Cocaine, I suspect we’d have to chew an awful lot to get into trouble.)

Updates on trip will be provided as and when internet coverage permits.
