Slinging our way to Singapore

After a couple of minor hiccups, we arrived at our hotel just after 4pm yesterday in time for a cold drink beside the pool followed by dinner at our club lounge.

My bus trip to Sydney took a bit longer than expected as we were pulled over for a log book check at Lake George and then for a second one at Marulan. To add insult to injury, they decided to do a full road worthy check as well. Tyres, brakes, lights, horn – the works. I thought they were going to come on and demand passports at one stage. The driver commented that they’ve been targeting buses, but you think they’d get their act together and not target the same bus twice within half an hour.

Anyway a nice relaxing night at Ridges at the airport. So relaxing that I didn’t wake up until 7:45 which was a bit problematic given we were on a 10 am flight. After a bit of dashing around we were in the airport in time for a dim sum breakfast at the lounge ( btw that’s apple juice not wine) before our pre lunch Singapore Sling on the flight.

Singapore arrivals is all automated now with electronic arrival cards completed a couple of days earlier. So a quick scan of passports and were we through with no queuing or waiting.

The trip in from the airport is beautiful, with flowering shrubs and trees alongside the road. Our enjoyment was brought to a sudden halt with a sudden bang and then the rear window beside Val shattered. Val had been watching a guy with a whipper sniper on the verge and she pinned him as the culprit. Our young, very polite Singaporean driver, who had been playing on his, phone at the time, had no idea what had happened, but when he swung around and spotted it there was some choice language.

The next five minutes were pretty comical as the window gradually disintegrated on top of Val whilst the driver found somewhere to pull over.

Anyway after 20 minutes a replacement taxi turned up and five minutes later we were at our hotel. No charge although some generous tips were handed over.

We’re staying in a club room here which means we have access to the club lounge for a champagne breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails. We were tail gated into the lounge last night by a cheeky English man who wanted to check it out. He snuck in beside us as we were checking in but I suspect might have been shown the door in a hurry. When we were seated, they explained to us that there were unlimited drinks, albeit only one at a time. Not really a problem, as they were on hand to fill up glasses whenever we looked like emptying them. A nice selection of hot and cold finger food which made for a perfect dinner.

A day around Singapore today before embarking on a cruise tomorrow.
