My last days at the Gold Coast were perfect. The weather warmed up to the high 20s so on Saturday I spent a couple of hours out on the water on the hop on/ hop off ferry. Jumped off at Southport for one last feed of fish and chips. I also enjoyed some nice flat walks along the spit up to sea world and then back along the beach. Sunday morning was busy with the local surf clubs holding some sort of a competition which involved jumping into and hooning around in inflatable boats.
Big night at the park on Saturday night watching the soccer. The place was really rocking after the last penalty went in. I thought McKenzie Arnold was a star all night, epitomized by her brilliant goal keeping against penalties immediately after missing her own shot. Anyway, I was so impressed, I’ve added McKenzie to my puppy name short list. I’m going to wait until I see the puppy to make a final decision.
I started my trip home on Monday, spending the night at Warwick, before arriving in Tenterfield on Tuesday. Tenterfield is one of those terrific country towns with history on every corner and a lovely wine bar for lunch. The School of the Arts is the building in which Henry Parkes made his famous speech promoting federation in 1889. Its amazing to think that it took only 12 years after that for agreement to be reached and the federation to occur.
I also stopped by High Street to visit George Woolnough’s place. Unfortunately it is closed in a Tuesday, but I made up for that by listening to Peter Allen during Wednesday’s drive to Tamworth.
Got into Tamworth in time for a pub lunch, wander around town and visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame. A bit underwhelming so no photos or listening to country music on the next leg of the trip to Mudgee. Big milestone on the way into town.
This makes it about 15600km on the trip. I’m heading back to Canberra tomorrow as I can’t pick up puppy until next Wednesday and I thought some time getting the house sorted after 5 months on the road along with some puppy proofing might be a good use of time in the lead up til next Wednesday.
