The great thing about caravan parks is that Mr Whippy vans still do the rounds. Particularly nice when they do it early afternoon when you’re looking for a sugar hit. My park at Caloundra is another great one. Coffee/breakfast van, pizza and wine van serving to an alfresco dining area and live music Friday. The pool is the best yet – long enough to swim laps in, water slides and all overlooking the ocean. The buildings in the background are ocean side cabins. It’s just about the perfect park – with the exception that it doesn’t allow dogs.

I’ve spent a very productive time at Caloundra. After arriving on Sunday, I packed up early on Monday to take the van back to Nambour for its service and to check out the air con. Whilst waiting, I went to the Indiana Jones movie at Maroochydore. I remember talking about the first IJ movie with uni friends in the mid 80’s – and the conversation would probably be the same today. The movie formula hasn’t changed over the intervening years albeit Harrison is looking quite elderly. Anyway, when I went back for the van they had confirmed air con problem and come up with a couple of quotes for me. First quote was for genuine fiat part with a 3 week delivery timeframe. Second quote was non genuine part, 48 hours delivery and $1000 cheaper. Lynne “why would l go for the genuine part?” Matt (manager) “ well for $1000 I wouldn’t”. So today I had my new non genuine compressor installed and I now have functioning air con.

Wednesday I headed down to Mooloolaba to meet up with Val, Anthony and Pats who have just arrived up from Canberra. Val found a terrific place to stay – ground floor unit with its own yard backing onto the river. A short walk along the boardwalk into the restaurant strip where we caught up with Dave, Jen and co from Adelaide for dinner.

I took advantage of their second bedroom and crashed there that night. I’m pretty convinced I’ll be dog shopping as soon as I get home – although Patsy’s tongue in my ear at 6 am to wake me up gave me room for thought. Tomorrow down to the Gold Coast for 3 weeks with Patsy and co so that will help with decision making. Accommodation looks very promising with V and A partaking of a birthday drink at the neighborhood wine bar today.
