On Monday, we joined 3 other passengers, our pilot and his trainee, in a flight up along the Dampier peninsula to Cape Leveque and over the Horizontal Falls. On the way out, we flew across the Buccaneer Archipeligo, which is home to over a thousand little islands. The area was discovered by William Dampier, in his pirating days. Hence the naming. After an hour or so in the air, we stopped for lunch and a tour of operations at the Cygnet Bay pearl farm. By this time we were all pretty pleased to get off the plane. The air con (actually a vent in the roof) hadn’t been operational, and the seats were super uncomfortable. The good part was that Val and me were in the front row behind the pilot (sadly not business class) so got a great view of what they were up to. We all had headphones which allowed us to hear the pilot and also all of the radio traffic. There’s no air traffic control once out of Broome airspace so we relied on radio updates to anyone in the area as to where we are and where we were heading.

After a barramundi lunch at Cygnet bay we loaded up again, and with snacks in hand and the air vent open, headed out for a two hour return trip via Horizontal Falls. Arrived back at 4pm, some 7 hours after we departed on our half day tour. Great day.
