To wave or not to wave?

My biggest quandary crossing the Nullarbor was whether or not to give the “ raise 2 fingers off steering wheel and waggle” wave or not. I started it on the first morning, but got over it in a hurry and restricted it to vans like mine and cyclists- of whom there were at least half a dozen – unbelievable.

The driving was probably the easiest I have ever done. Excellent wide roads, largely straight and flat, with not a great deal of traffic. The first day we drove to Eucla, just over the WA border. This drive was lovely. Lots of it alongside the Great Australian Bite, with lots of places to pull over for photos or just sit and look at the ocean

The other thing I’ve entertained myself with is visiting the Longest 18 golf holes. They’re not getting any better and I haven’t been the slightest bit tempted to find a golf club and have a hit. This is the 4th hole – Wombat hole at Nundroo. You will see the green has improved, but not so much the fairway. In fact I wasn’t exactly sure where the fairway was.

We spent the first night at the Eucla roadhouse where the caravan park is a paddock out the back with wonderful views out over the ocean. Eucla, and about 100 kms west of or have adopted their own time zone. 45 minutes behind Adelaide and 45 minutes ahead of Perth. My phone, iPad and van clock were all giving me different times. Luckily none of it mattered anyway as I’m on holidays. The roadhouses pretty much all have motels, caravan paddocks and bistro/bar attached. We had a nice dinner at the bistro before Kerry and David shot through early the next morning.

Outback prices – $12 for a little bottle and $5 for 600 ml milk

The latter 2 days of my drive weren’t as interesting. No radio reception for most of it so I had to resort to a sing along with my music. Luckily no passengers on board. At Norseman now, and heading across to Kalgoorlie tomorrow where I’ll catch up with Kerry and David again.
