Cage diving with great white sharks at Port Lincoln

Not in a thousand years. I took up the alternate offering of a two hour harbour seafood cruise. Port Lincoln has one of the largest shipping fleets in the southern hemisphere. Our boat was skippered by an ex prawn trawlerman. We checked out the prawn trawlers returning to harbour after fishing on the dark moon, before heading out to the mussel farms and the pens where they fatten up their wild caught tuna and kingfish, prior to sale. Not wanting to brag, but I’m now an expert on the differences between prawn, tuna and mussel boats.

Throughout the cruise, we sampled the local produce and, of course, enjoyed a cool beverage. We finished by swinging past a local sea lion colony.

Port Lincoln is really nice. There’s an ocean side track the goes about 8 Km’s from the town Centre to the marina. My caravan park was half way along it. On Monday I walked into town, with the trail taking me through the grain loading and sea food terminals. I had lunch at a local pub which offers a terrific tasting plate of local seafood.

Yesterday I headed in the opposite direction down to the marina for my cruise. A newer development, and really nice mix of a working port, surrounded by a mix of town houses, houses and mansions. Fantastic looking pub overlooking the marina, but unfortunately I only discovered it after finishing fish and chips from the local take away.

Staying at Elliston tonight on my way to Ceduna for Easter. Much quieter place. I have a decision to make as to whether I turn right and walk 100 meters to the beach, or left and go the same distance to the pub ???
